A new study from Harvard researchers has now shown how fasting can increase lifespan, slow aging and improve health by altering the activity of mitochondrial networks inside our cells.

As per researchers from Intermountain Healthcare Heart Institute, Salt Lake City, fasting once every month is really good for your overall body. The team closely monitored 2,000 patients of cardiac catheterization and most of them were practitioners of ‘Mormons’ where a person observes fast for 24 hours every month. They found that these people lived approx five years longer. So, if you want to add years to your life, start fasting.

Despite its recent surge in popularity, fasting is a practice that dates back centuries and plays a central role in many cultures and religions. Defined as the abstinence from all or some foods or drinks for a set period of time, there are many different ways of fasting.
